When I opened up my first business I had very little understanding of what type of lifestyle or business I even wanted – Years later after having financial success, winning awards and making an impact I realised that my motivations were very different to a lot of the taught to you support you can get. I had big financial goals but I also wanted to work on my wellbeing, my confidence and to have complete autonomy over my lifestyle.
I have been able to achieve a flexible model that suits the work I feel joy in, brings in multiple incomes, supports my audience and allows me time with my family and friends. Having a model for your own business that hits all the markers for your own very personal goals is the game changing moment because success to you may be freedom or it may be getting deep into challenging projects or earning 5k months vs 100k months.

When I started my business, I did what I thought where ALL the right things. But really I was just playing at being a business for too long. I wish I had just had someone to tell me the really important things that took me so much longer to learn and implement. Those things where the real revenue generating changes and now I want to make sure everyone builds their businesses that way.
The one thing I did get right is that I prioritised building an audience, from day one. Before I ever had a product or service to sell. Building a community became my strongest asset, having a community of women around me who have supported, encouraged and cheerleadered me and each other.
Building my audience to 85k in 3 years and working with brands like M&S, Next, Primark, The National Lottery, FitBit and many many more. I realised there was this side of business that every business owner was doing (creating content) but so few were monetising.
I had a loyal audience who would purchase my solutions, and always be there to help provide ideas for my next income stream.
It has become my mission to educate business owners and influencers how to grow an engaged audience who loves hearing from you and monetise their content creation. Being able to do this has meant that I have been able build a business around my family. My first financial goal was to make £800 to pay our mortgage. Just so I could stay at home and be with our children. Over the years the goals have changed but I still always put flexibility and family before everything else as they are the reason I started in the first place.
It took me a long time to realise success isn’t a financial metric. Success is the path between feeling satisfied and excited at the same time. I’m Dawn, my pals call me dawni and I am fine with that – I love terms of endearment, I am mainly pink and fuzzy , a bit empathy and energy sensitive, totally bonkers and completely British & Northern.
I find labels a bit weird if I’m honest because these are things I have done or I do …not really who I am , but here goes – I have a heafty amount of corporate sales and retail experience spanning over 15 years ( I know, i know… I don’t look old enough – you’re too kind!) more notably of which was in a large well loved head office where I experienced a lot of amazing skills and training from everything from merchandising, supply, marketing , internal branding , product listing….I could go on, but I won’t .
After years of the corporate rat race, which isn’t really a race at all I had had enough of long hours, pretty poor pay and losing hours away from my then child (there was only one then). I decided to get myself trained up in two areas I had worked in and loved to see if I could maybe have a little side hustle. That side hustle turned into a bona fide business within the first 6 months, which lead into other opportunities – which lead into me building my social media agency that now covers accounts for SME’s across the globe.

I teach social media managers how to effectively use the right digital marketing practices and tools to build loyal brand followings. I also support some of the worlds biggest coaches to create, nurture and then sell to their communities.
